South Carolina is flying far ahead of the competition when it comes to aerospace employment and revenue growth in the private sector, according to a recent study by the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness. With more than 17,000 workers at 466 private aerospace firms in the state and much of the growth coming from the Charleston area, South Carolina is a great place for aerospace jobs. This report is not only a snapshot of where South Carolina's aerospace industry is today, but also an indicator of what we can expect in the future. There are plenty of new investments and partnerships coming to South Carolina. Impresa Aerospace, a California-based manufacturer, recently made a large investment to establish a manufacturing facility in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Boeing recently pledged $5 million to the University of South Carolina for advanced research projects and next-generation aviation technology. The InterTech Group is also teaming up with the University, announcing a plant to 3D print aerospace parts. Aerospace is now a major part of South Carolina's economy, and will only continue to grow.
