In an effort to attract buyers while also providing residence with the opportunity to enjoy the lifestyle that they desire, a growing number of Palm Beach County communities are completing expansive makeovers. These makeovers, which typically cost millions of dollars to complete, are designed to both increase and improve upon the amenities that these communities have to offer.

One of the most recent communities to be approved for upgrades in Palm Beach County was Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens. Despite being one of the newer country club communities within the county, residents approved a $40 million project that will add a tennis center with a covered viewing patio, a family aquatics area complete with cabanas and a bathhouse, an outdoor spa and hot tub and a number of restaurant and ballroom expansions. Other communities that have either approved upgrade plans or that have recently completed luxurious upgrades include St. Andrews in Boca Raton, Polo Club in Boca Raton, Jupiter Country Club in Jupiter, Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter, BallenIsles in Palm Beach Gardens and Ibis in West Palm Beach.

At Ibis, the $33 million project includes adding a 22,000 square foot extension to the back of the 52,000 square foot clubhouse as well as the addition of a “sports village.” The sports village will include a two-story fitness center that overlooks a spa and a resort pool. New restaurants will also be added next to the tennis courts and facing the pool. With these upgrades, the Ibis board of directors hopes to enhance the “Ibis experience” for current members while also attracting younger buyers.

The nearby BallenIsles community has undergone several upgrades in recent years. The first was a $40 million update in 2008 and 2009, followed by another $5.2 million update last year. According to the General Manager of BallenIsles, these updates are necessary in order to remain competitive within Palm Beach County. Meanwhile, St. Andrews is just getting started with the third phase of its $17 million project, which was started in 2012. The first phase involved redoing the card rooms and locker rooms, while the second phase involved installing a new swimming pool and recreation center as well as renovating the 125,000 square foot clubhouse. During the third phase, the community’s freestanding casual restaurant will undergo changes so it will be better capable of handling high volume traffic.
