A growing number of students in South Carolina, and Charleston in particular, will be well-prepared for college if Advanced Placement testing is any indication. A record 26,657 high school seniors took AP exams in 2015, and more than 10% notched the highest possible score. Several Charleston County high schools placed particularly well among state schools. Wando and Academic Magnet led the area with 81% of AP tests taken resulting in a score ranging from 3 to 5. A 3 or above allows a student to receive college credit from an AP course. When it comes to SAT testing, Charleston also rises beyond the national average. The district average of 14480 is above both the nationwide average and the statewide average. The Charleston County School District has seen its SAT scores improve almost 40 points in the past five years! South Carolina teens are also getting a head start on their testing. The number of public school sophomores that took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test increased by a whopping 58% in 2015!
